14 Spring Tasks for Holiday Home Owners in South West WA

It doesn't feel like it just yet but Spring is here and with it comes the promise of warm sunny days and more vacation rental bookings.

Why it's important to Spring clean your vacation home
Spring is the ideal time to thoroughly clean your holiday home

Given that the hectic period of Summer changeovers will soon be upon us, Spring is the ideal time to prepare your holiday home. The windows and doors will once again be thrown open, the rooms bathed in sunshine and the house bared in all its glory!

If you're concerned about the additional cost of a Spring clean, why not schedule it to take place right after guests check out, so that some of the cost is covered by the post-guest clean. Alternatively, rope in the family members for an "all hands on deck Spring clean and BBQ weekend". Below is an idea of what a Spring clean of your vacation home should involve:

  1. Shampoo or steam clean carpets and rugs – homes in the country, in particular, take a beating as guests track through in damp grubby shoes.

  2. Clean the windows inside and out – there's nothing that says clean like sparkling windows!

  3. Remove and clean light fixtures and extractor fans – there's nothing worse that seeing dirt and dead bugs collected at the bottom of a light fitting.

  4. Clean the nooks and crannies – wardrobe shelves, skirtings, pelmets and cornices all harbour cobwebs and often get neglected.

  5. Clean out kitchen cupboards and drawers – crumbs, spills and dust have a way of collecting in the kitchen drawers.

  6. Check plates and glasses – some may have disappeared due to winter breakages and don't forget to see if those at the bottom of the pile are clean.

  7. Swap Winter bedding for lighter, cooler options – still ensuring a blanket is available in the wardrobe, for each bed, just in case there's a cold snap.

  8. Doona covers – swap for colours that reflect spring-summer tones or use white/neutral colours with a coloured throw and cushions.

  9. Cushion covers – introduce some summer tones throughout and your home is sure to appear fresh and inviting.

  10. Move and clean behind major appliances – clear away any dirt or debris that's collected behind and underneath.

  11. Check board games – are all pieces still in the box or is it time to replace?

  12. Check loose boards in the decking outside. Does it need a new closet of sealer?

  13. Remove cobwebs from outside eaves.

  14. Update the Welcome Book with any new venues! Oh wait, that's our job for those who host with us!!

While you're taking a close look at every aspect of your home, ensure it's 100% child safe. A well-maintained property will bring you better reviews, earn more bookings and make more money in the long run.
