16 Autumn Task Tips for Holiday Home Owners in South West WA

Winter is coming and Jon Snow may be the newly recognised king of the north but the south west corner of WA is definitely the jewel of the south!

So how should we shore up our castles for the change of season? For most holiday homes here in South West of Western Australia it means that now is a great time to get onto those tasks that were placed on the back-burner during the hectic period of summer changeovers.

  1. Touch up or repaint any walls that need it – some walls many have taken a bit of a bashing from children over the busy summer season.

  2. Check pillows – replace any pillows that are lumpy or have gone flat. Two pillows for each person is expected by guests.

  3. Changeover summer bedding for warmer, cosier options – swap light cotton doonas for down/feather or ensure a warm blanket is available in each wardrobe.

  4. Doona covers – it's a great idea to swap with colours that reflect autumn tones or use white with Autumn coloured throw and cushions.

  5. Cushion covers – introduce some autumn tones throughout and your home is sure to appear warm and inviting.

  6. Check plates and glasses – some may have disappeared due to summer breakages and don't forget to see if those at the bottom of the pile are clean.

  7. Check kitchen utensils – ensure adequate supply, sharpen blunt knives, make a roasting pan available, etc.

  8. Introduce a warm winter throw on the lounge suite.

  9. Check board games – are all pieces still in the box or is it time to replace?

  10. Order wood for wood burning stoves.

  11. Leave out a suitable container for the wood close to the fire – no-one wants to have to go out in the pouring rain to get the next log.

  12. Leave out firelighters and matches in a safe place away from children.

  13. Ensure a flashlight is handy and batteries available.

  14. Check smoke alarms (if battery powered).

  15. Take rodent precautions – if home is going to be empty for any period of time ensure that baits are left out to keep unwanted visitors away.

  16. Update the Welcome Book with any new venues! Oh wait, that's our job for those who host with us!!

There are probably other things that should be on the list but I'm off to watch the MKR final, so I'll probably think of other kitchen tips after I've hit 'Publish Post'.

Until next time then!

We can't stop Winter from coming but I'm sure Jon, Daenarys and her dragons have the 'White Walkers' covered! :-)
